1. Take the time to Learn More About Your Followers – Here's Why It's Worth It
Networking platforms are excellent resources to gain awareness for your business and to increase followers. But you want people to do more than just be aware …and follow you, not to make small of those two actions because indeed they are huge, still it's not enough; not when your goal is to sell something. You need your followers to take another step.
The truth is, many of you (outside of retail) don’t want to admit that you are “selling” anything. You just want to say that you are “providing a service”. Well, here's a fact...even if you are providing the service for FREE you are still selling something. So if you are planning to charge people for that service, then put down your Cool-Aid …and pay attention, you are DEFINITELY selling something. |
People are typically more interested in themselves than they are in you and what you are selling. That’s okay. When you start showing your followers that you are more interested in building a relationship with them than you are with selling, then you suddenly start looking interesting to them. “But”, you say ….”At what point do I sell them what I have?”
Maybe never. But again, that’s okay because the power is in the numbers of people you can connect online.
Each individual has the potential of bringing you into a large circle. And of course, that’s the purpose of networking.
Get to know the individual and get to know their circle. Stop trying to get one sale or one client (Unless they own a large company and you’re bidding to win a contract…and even then you should be bidding on more than one.)

Even if you were GIVING AWAY MONEY, there would be skeptics (I'd be one of them) and people need to feel connected in different ways before they take each action your asking of them. Remember you've already gotten them to follow you. Now you are asking them to do something else.
You must take the time to find out why they would be interested in taking that next step. It’s true, that they may not ever want to buy what you have to sell, but if they are interested in what you have to say, chances are very good that they will tell someone else about you and therein you’ll find possibilities and opportunities |
3. Make them an offer "they can't refuse" ... Well okay... they may refuse, but you will still be rolling in benefits!
People want something of value from you…before they give you their time, their email or their phone number. Think of something you can give them that is valuable enough to make them want more.
You’ve heard it before: SOLVE THE PROBLEM. Use research to determine what really interests them and what the real issue is for them, then create a campaign that offers valuable information and provide an opportunity to share that information with them. If you can afford to offer a discount, then do it. If it’s something more ethereal they need…like time, show them ways you can help them. If you can afford a trial offer, then do it and show them the value of what you have for them. |
In summary, there is a systematic approach to reaching a successful outcome with each one of the steps listed above. You can believe it or not.
