It’s not easy for me to part with some of my books; they are like old friends with whom I have spent many enjoyable years ….and I want to be certain my books are well taken care of. But while researching places to donate them, I am finding that when I do give them away, I will not have a lot of “say” in what happens to them. My books are all in great shape, but it seems no matter where I donate them, they will be subject to finding themselves in a recycle bin. I can do that myself...with no help from anyone.
I’d like to select the most book friendly option for donating, so I'm asking for your help. Here I am listing the places that I’m considering and their policies.
If you are a bookworm, please look at the options below and tell me which way you'd go...or if you have a better option.
Pro: They may use 10% of the books you donate
Con: The remainder may be disposed of in a recycling bin
Question: Should I take my friends to a place where there is a 90% chance of being recycled?
Better World Books –
Pro: They accept books and they support literacy programs around the world
Con: Street container drop-off
Question: Should I put my old friends in a container on a street corner?
Salvation Army/Goodwill –
Pro: They accept books and will pick them up
Con: Clueless about the % that may be sent to the recycle bin
Question: Do I want to be clueless about the possible outcome of my friends?
I'm looking forward to your comments!
