Well, the “Long Tail” is a term coined by Wired magazine editor-in-chief Chris Anderson. In his 2004 article, Anderson described how emerging business models would come to appreciate the importance of micro niches–sub markets of consumers who were after fringe goods and services. Such fringe groups, when taken in total, actually may outnumber the number of consumers pursuing the best-selling products. But traditionally, such consumers were often considered irrelevant–given an industry’s limited ability to successfully profit from such nichey products.
