Start with legal advice. If you are a small business owner you should have some access to an attorney. There are many affordable resources for business legal on line, and there are other options for acquiring a good privacy policy statement:
- Google it. Find templates on line. You can find them form free, and you can find them for a nominal fee.
- Research similar business categories (not to copy their policy verbatim, but) to get a "feel" for how your policies should be worded.
- Make inquiries with the vendor that provides your Internet services. They typically have a library of templates
- Contact us. We provide our clients with templates for privacy statements as well as installing them on the Web site.
In any case, be sure there is a link to your privacy statement listed in the navigation links of your primary Web site and on any landing page where you are collecting data. Typically the privacy statement link is in the footer section of the site, because this section appears on each page.
Here's a not-so-well known fact: If you decide to use a Social Media platforms like Facebook, you will be required to have a direct URL to your Privacy Policy before you are allowed to purchase an ad that contains a Facebook Form. While we don't advocate using Facebook forms (again due to lack of ownership) it is an indicator that your privacy policy is an issue that should be taken seriously.
